Grout curtains take the form of large-area waterproof membranes incorporated by means of injection between the ground and structural fabric. The installed membrane prevents water infiltration through leaking building elements, heavily porous fabric, inaccessible joints and cracks, expansion and movement joints and all types of masonry. These systems make use of RASCOR's own tried-and-tested RASCOflex grout.
Consolidating injections are essentially identical to grout curtains, though on a smaller scale, their application being limited to the area immediately behind or below the problem zone. Proper installation requires considerable skill and experience. Here too, the RASCOflex grout has proved its worth by providing a dependable seal in countless applications. Larger problem zones may require mechanical plugging prior to grouting.
Key features and merits
Direct sealing of problem area/leakage
No need for costly excavation of green spaces around structure to repair external membranes
Waterproof barrier achieved through swelling action – no adhesion to sides required Waterproofing performance is not impaired even by dirt, oil, grease or other kinds of contamination to cracks and surfaces
Result of waterproofing measures may be immediately and visually inspected on site
Flexibility of grout allows considerable freedom in planning and adapting waterproofing procedure/strategy
Gel time of RASCOflex may be freely adjusted on site to suit requirements
Grout may be injected against direct water pressure
Frost-resistant
Resistant to most chemicals
Final thoughts Grout curtains and consolidating injections with RASCOflex provide a reliable waterproof barrier to the external surface of buried structures without the need for elaborate excavations and regardless of the type of masonry (rubble, clay brick etc.). The injected membrane forms a strong barrier to water infiltration in the problem zone – and the structure is guaranteed to remain watertight in future even if the defective area should expand or shrink.
